I'm packing for gamescom.
We leave on Tuesday and come back on Saturday. The main is event is between Wednesday and Friday, and we'll be reporting live from the show floor. The current plan is to write a newsletter every day, create social media content, and film YouTube Shorts/TikToks/Instagram Reels.
So I have to pack a ton of tech. Like a unreasonable amount of tech. Here is the complete list:
What tech I pack
- Sony a7 IV + 24-70 GM II: I'll be running around with this to film and shoot stuff.
- Sony a7 IV accessories: Smallrig cage, Smallrig grip, Atomos Shinobi monitor, Peak Design wrist strap.
- Sony a7c II + 35F18: Our photographer, aka my girlfriend, will use this to take pictures.
- Rode Wireless GO II + Lavalier: It wouldn't be a TikTok video if someone wasn't holding a lavalier mic.
- Rode NTG4: Interview mic to look extra professional.
- Battery Pack #1 and #2: Self-explanatory.
- iPhone 15 Pro: Technically not packing this, since it's always with me.
- MacBook Pro: This is what I'll be using to write the newsletter and edit the videos. M1 Max, 64GB memory.
- Boox Go Color 7: A colored e-ink reader I am currently testing and plan to review soon.
- Boox Palma: I'm not leaving without my precious.
- AirPods Max: Bundled with that over-expensive headphone jack cable to edit stuff.
- iPad Pro 11": Not sure about this one, but maybe if I want to watch some TV show or read a graphic novel in the evenings in the hotel room. But unsure I'll have the time/energy.
- Odin 2 Mini: Currently my favorite handheld.
- ASUS ROG Ally or Steam Deck: I am unsure about this one. Like the iPad, I don't know if I even have the time to play anything on it. Also, there's no game except for Hades II I'm currently into on a handheld.
- Samsung T5 SSD: To add all the footage I need to edit.
- Logitech MX Master 3s: I won't even try to edit on a trackpad.
- So many chargers: And so many USB-C cables.
All of this has to fit into a Peak Design Everyday backpack and my suit case, together with all the other stuff I'm bringing like toiletry, clothing, supplements to fight potential exhibition-sickness, my notebook and pen of choice, and more.
I’m happy I trained my back this past year.
